Optimal Design of Next-Generation Wireless Base Station Subsystems

چکیده

The current competitive environment in mobile communication services in an increasingly mature market requires service providers to offer their communication services at rates attractive to their customers while at the same time offering reasonable service quality. As quality-of-service (QoS) is tightly coupled with communication system infrastructure investments, finding the right balance between capital cost and service coverage is crucial to the success of an operator in this market. Cost recovery requires sufficient demand for services in those geographical areas in which the investments are made. The slow rate at which third generation mobile services have been built out so far indicates that service providers are reluctant to make substantial investments in infrastructure that would enable third generation mobile communication services in fear of not being able to recover the investment. This paper aims at addressing the infrastructure investment problem with stringent QoS requirements so as to minimize the cost of service provisioning at the target service quality level.
